Painter, muralist and lithographer, born at Gateshead, County Durham. Studied at King Edward VII School of Art, Durham University, Royal College of Art and lithography at London County Council School. Became chief assistant at Huddersfield School of Art, eventually principal of Bolton School of Art, 1930–51. Was president of MAFA and of Bolton Art Circle. Exhibited RA, Goupil Gallery and Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. Victoria & Albert Museum, British Museum and provincial galleries hold his work. Lived at Bolton, Lancashire.
