Painter and printmaker, born in Aberdeen. He studied at Edinburgh College of Art and won a postgraduate diploma with distinction. Furneaux’s pictures are singular, being inhabited by mystical figures. The painter won many awards. These included the RSA’s Keith Award for Best Student in 1986; Young Scottish Artist of the Year, sponsored by Miller Homes, which provided him with a studio in Paris for a year; and the Sunday Times Scotland Mayfest Award in 1989. After working in Paris he had a solo show at Todd Gallery and at Compass Gallery, Glasgow, with one of wood block prints at The Firth Gallery, Edinburgh, 2001. Aberdeen Art Gallery is among several public collections holding his work.
