Ada Freeman Gell [also known as Mrs Newman Gell*] was born Ada Evershed in Brighton, Sussex, England on 9 May 1849. She was active as a sculptor in Brighton, Sussex and in London, England. She participated in the first exhibition of the Arts & Crafts Exhibition Society at the New Gallery in London in 1888. Between 1887 and 1916 she also exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists and the Grosvenor Gallery in London; the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool; Manchester City Art Gallery; Leeds City Art Gallery; and at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. She married Alfred Freeman Gell (1844-1911) in March 1869. Her address was given as 52, Old Stein, Brighton, Sussex in 1869 and 1888; 43 Roland Gardens, South Kensington, London; in 1898; and 9 Museum Mansions, Great Russell Street, London in 1908.
