Eva Frankfurther (1930–1959)

Artist, born in Berlin, Germany, who was brought to England by her family in 1939, settling in London’s East End. Attended St Martin’s School of Art, 1947–52, but taught social work at the London School of Economics. Her book People had an introduction by the artist and critic Mervyn Levy. Ben Uri Art Society, which has her Portrait of a Woman, gave her a show in 1962, three years after she committed suicide. Memorial show, Boundary Gallery, 2001.
