Sculptor, born in Liverpool. He studied at Manchester Polytechnic, 1975–9, then spent a year as Fellow in Sculpture at Cheltenham College of Art. He went on to lecture part-time at Blackpool and Rochdale Colleges of Art. Fell was awarded a Major Award by North West Arts and in 1981 the Yorkshire Arts Association Artists in Industry Fellowship. He used pre-formed steel for his sculpture, and this was an opportunity for him to work in a steelworks, surrounded by his material at all its stages of formation. Although Fell’s sculptures were abstract, they made allusions to human or machine counterparts, dynamic while being quite compact. Fell took part in a number of group shows, including New Contemporaries at ICA in 1978, the Manchester Academy exhibitions and he was included in the Welsh Sculpture Trust’s 1983 Margam event, Sculpture in a Country Park.
