Painter, muralist and book illustrator, born in Wimbledon, Surrey. She studied at the School of Art there, Royal College of Art and at British School in Rome. She was involved in Recording Wales for the Pilgrim Trust, 1944–6. Completed a 120-foot mural for the nurses’ home at Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry. Showed with SEA, WAC, RCamA, RSA, RWS and elsewhere. She had a show at National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, in 1959, and at Powys Fine Art Room, Welshpool, in 1961. In 1993 there was a tribute show at Abbott and Holder. Victoria & Albert Museum; National Museum of Wales in Cardiff; and Oldham and Sheffield Councils hold her work. Lived at Rhiw, Pwllheli, Gwynedd, wife of the poet R S Thomas. Thomas was ordained in the Church of England and Eldridge brought an artist’s eye to the decoration of the austere poet-priest’s churches.
