Figurative painter in oil, born in Chirk, Denbighshire, who studied at Shrewsbury, 1974–5, and Cheltenham, 1975–8, after which he was based in Shropshire, settling in Oswestry. Showed at RA Summer Exhibition and regularly in portrait exhibitions at National Portrait Gallery, which toured his Contemporary Poets show, 1990–3. The Liverpool poets, also Seamus Heaney, John Heath-Stubbs, Michael Longley, Douglas Dunn and Bobby Charlton were among Edwards’ main works. National Portrait Gallery, Ulster Museum in Belfast, Ferens Art Gallery in Hull, National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth, Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead and a number of university colleges hold examples.
