William Denis Eden [also known as Denis Eden] was born in Liverpool, England on 20 July 1878 and studied under Frederic George Stephens (1828-1907) at St. John's Wood School in London from the age of 16, and then at the Royal Academy Schools in London from 1898 to 1901. He subsequently worked as a painter and decorative artist. Eden was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy in London from 1900 to 1937. He also exhibited at the Fine Art Society, and Royal Institute of Oil Painters in London; Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool; Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh; and at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. Eden's address was given as 76 Adelaide Road, London in 1900 and 1907; Rickling Church End, Newport, Essex in 1909; 262 Fulham Road, London in 1910; Michelmersh, Romney in 1912; 48 East St.
