Painter, illustrator, graphic designer and art editor, working in oil and pen and ink, born and died in London. He attended Woolwich Polytechnic art school, 1944–46; Camberwell School of Art, 1946–7, where John Minton and Lawrence Gowing were influences; and the Anglo-French Art Centre, 1948–9. Dunbar was an illustrator on the Financial Times; art director of The Economist, 1959–68, then a consultant; director of PD Associates; Matthews, Miller, Dunbar; and art director, Ballantine Books. Group shows included St George’s Gallery, 1953; 4 Young Painters, Blackheath, 1955 (the others were Robert Hunt, Gordon Richards and Owen Wood); and Camberwell School of Art, 1964–5.
