Painter and teacher, a native of Suffolk, where much of his work – intimate, in the manner of Bonnard and Vuillard – was painted. He studied at Croydon School of Art, 1949–50 and at Royal College of Art, 1950–3. From 1964 he taught for many years at Royal Academy Schools, being appointed professor of perspective in 1984. From 1950 was a regular RA exhibitor, also showing at NEAC, Leicester Galleries and Roland, Browse & Delbanco. He had solo shows at Trafford Gallery, 1957 and 1963, and New Grafton Gallery, 1974 onwards. Wrote several books on drawing and perspective. The Arts Club and public galleries in Brighton and Huddersfield hold his work. Lived at Great Finborough, Suffolk.
