Painter and teacher, born in North Shields, Northumberland. After education locally he studied at department of fine art, Durham University, under E M O’Rorke Dickey and Richard Hatton, 1922–6. He was principal of Bridgwater Art and Technical School, 1932–8, its equivalent at Barnstaple, 1938–44, then for many years from 1945 was head of the art department at Gateshead Grammar School. Showed with RWA, of which he was a member, RA and elsewhere in the provinces. RWA, Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle and Shipley Art Gallery, Gateshead, hold his work. Lived in Gateshead for many years, latterly in Canterbury, Kent.
