Painter, relief printmaker and teacher, born in Merseyside, who gained a first-class honours degree at Leeds Polytechnic, 1981–4, and his master’s in fine art, with Alistair Grant, at Royal College of Art, 1986–8. Won many awards, including Galleries Magazine award (Open to Print), 1988; London Contemporary Arts and Friends of Bradford Art Galleries awards, 11th British International Print Biennale, 1990; Printmaking Today award, Federation of British Artists Print Exhibition, 1994; and Stinger Purchase Prize and Estonia National Art Museum Purchase Prize, Tallinn International Print Triennale, 1995. Held many residencies and lectureships, later visiting posts including Leeds Metropolitan University and Kent Institute of Art and Design.
