Artist in mixed media, notable for photomontage work, born in Aberdeen, Scotland. Studied at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, and after graduating with honours studied at University of Ulster to gain master’s degree, over period 1982–7. In 1986 gained Shell UK Prize, also Rank Xerox, Marlow, award. Group exhibitions included Time at Museum of Modern Art in Oxford, 1988; the Fruitmarket Open, at Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh, 1990; and Gruzelier Modern Art, 1992. Solo exhibitions included Physical Manners at Project Gallery, Dublin, and Interference, Art Advice, Belfast, both 1989. In 1992–3 Donaldson was included in the Arts Council Gallery, Belfast, show Twelve Stars, the work State 13, of 1991, being acquired for European Parliament Collection.
