Artist born and settled in Brightlingsea, Essex, who was an apprentice shipwright, 1972–6, then attended Colchester School of Art, 1976–7, Chelsea School of Art, 1977–80, and Royal College of Art, 1981–4. From 1980 was a prolific exhibitor, including The Minories, Colchester, 1983, Hatton Gallery at Newcastle upon Tyne, 1985, Camden Arts Centre, 1987, Gallery 44 at Aldeburgh Festival, 1990, and Sue Rankin Gallery, 1992. Solo exhibition of recent paintings was held at Chappel Galleries, Chappel, 1994, also Shipshape at firstsite, The Minories, Colchester, and tour, 2001–2, at National Maritime Museum, 2003, Messum’s in 2004, with another at Chappel in 2005. Ipswich and Horniman Museums and the Britten-Pears Library hold examples. Commissions included two big paintings for Clacton and Rochford Hospitals, The National Trust and Kent Opera and Tollesbury stained glass window working with Stourside Glassworks.
