Painter, muralist and designer, born in Kennington, Ashford, Kent. He studied at Maidstone College of Art, 1958–63, teachers including Christopher Ironside, Robin Ironside, Gerard de Rose, Margery Gill and David Hockney; then at Royal Academy Schools, 1963–6, under Peter Greenham, Charles Mahoney, Fred Dubery, Graham Arnold, Edward Bawden, Richard Eurich and Gertrude Hermes. Until 1975 Dodd concentrated on easel pictures, then he added mural works, small architectural details and became an adviser on historic colour detail. Dodd was a member of the Art Workers’ Guild from 1982. He took part in the RA Bicentary Exhibition, 1967–8, and had a series of solo shows at New Grafton Gallery, 1969–72. He completed five capriccio panels for the Painted Room, Victoria & Albert Museum, 1986; work in the Painted Hall, Great Fosters, Egham, 1989; and in New Picture Room, Sir John Soane’s Museum, 1992.
