Painter, designer, art critic and teacher whose full name was Edward Scott Dobson and who was born in Blyth, Northumberland. Studied art at King Edward VII College, Newcastle; at Freckleton, in Lancashire; and Leeds College of Art. Sometimes signing work only S D, showed New Vision Centre, Redfern Gallery, RSA and in his home area of Newcastle upon Tyne. For a time he was art critic of the Evening Chronicle newspaper there and he also taught art for several years at Manchester Grammar School, as well as running the Westgate Gallery in Newcastle. Shipley Art Gallery in Gateshead and Laing Art Gallery and Museum in Newcastle hold his work.
