Painter and teacher, born in Hertfordshire. He attended Leicester School of Art, 1964–5, then Chelsea School of Art, 1965–8, and Slade School of Fine Art, 1968–70, having from 1967 begun showing at LG and at Young Contemporaries. Group show appearances included John Moores Liverpool Exhibition from 1987 and Corsham A Celebration, Victoria Art Gallery, Bath, 1988–9, and tour. His solo exhibitions included Garage Art Ltd in 1975; 1985 Salisbury Festival; 1986 Axiom Gallery, Cheltenham; and in 1997 both Todd Gallery and John Hansard Gallery at University of Southampton. Taught at various art colleges, eventually becoming head of fine art at Bath College of Higher Education. In 2005 Crumplin’s Paintings 1995–05 were shown at Six Chapel Row Contemporary Art, Bath, by which time he was reader in fine art at Bath Spa University.
