Painter in acrylic and watercolour, born in Chicago, Illinois, America, who graduated in fine art, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, 1958–62, also studying part-time at school of the Art Institute of Chicago, moving to England in 1975, where she settled in Oxford. Initially, Collins’ work was people and places, mainly buildings, but from 1990 she focused on still lifes and floral pictures. Although her work was representational, “the actual subject I choose to paint … is less important than the resulting abstract patterns of light, shape and colour that they create.” Joined Oxford Art Society, 1983, SWA, 1994. Group shows included RA Summer Exhibition, Hunting/Observer Art Prize, ROI, RWS and Museum of Modern Art in Oxford. Solo shows included Green College in Oxford, Joy Horwich Gallery in Chicago, Barbican Centre, Shire Hall Gallery in Stafford, and Stables and Sunshine Galleries.
