Painter of abstracts and lecturer, born in Cheshire, who studied at Liverpool College of Art under Arthur Ballard and George Mayer-Marton, and at the Slade School of Fine Art under Claude Rogers, Anthony Gross, Ceri Richards and Robert Medley. While at Liverpool was awarded the Blond Travelling Scholarship, visiting Italy, staying at the British School at Rome. Taught at Canterbury College of Art and London College of Printing, then from 1963–96 at Goldsmiths’ College School of Art, being head of art education, 1976–85, colleagues including Anton Ehrenzweig and Harry and Elma Thubron. Tony Collinge’s exhibitions included LG 75th Anniversary, RCA, 1988; joint show with Elma Thubron, Storey Institute Gallery, Lancaster, 1994; solo exhibition at Woodlands Art Gallery, 1995; and Museum of Installation, 1997.
