Draughtsman, watercolourist and printmaker, born in Shipbourne, Kent. Her maiden name was Edna Waugh, under which she originally worked. She married William Clarke Hall in 1899, a barrister who was in 1932 knighted for his penal reform work. He encouraged her parents to let her study at Slade School of Fine Art, which she entered in 1894. She was a star pupil of Henry Tonks, winning a Slade Scholarship in 1897. She showed at NEAC, Friday Club and AAA, and had a solo show at Chenil Gallery in 1914. A much larger show followed at Redfern Gallery in 1924, after which she often showed there. Clarke Hall was noted for her lively draughtsmanship, notably in a series of illustrations which she did for Emily Brontë’s novel Wuthering Heights, but they were not completed or published.
