
Christopher Clairmonte (1932–2012)
Collection of Original Works for Children in Cambridgeshire
Painter, draughtsman and teacher, producer of decorative views notable for a felicitous line, who studied at Wimbledon School of Art and the Royal College of Art, teachers including John Minton. Became a full-time lecturer at Epsom School of Art. Lived in Hove, Sussex, where the Museum and Art Gallery holds his ink and gouache The Natural History Museum, London. Had a solo exhibition with Patrick Seale Gallery, 1981, sharing one with Roy Spencer at Sally Hunter Fine Art in 1987. Terrace Gallery in Worthing and Cowfold Gallery, Cowfold, also showed Clairmonte, who later lived in Cyprus. Christopher’s brother Hugh founded the Clairmonte Galleries in Brighton.
