Painter, draughtsman and teacher, born in Worthing, Sussex, as George Christopher Chamberlain. He was married to the artist Heather Copley. After private education Chamberlain studied at Clapham School of Art, 1934–8, in 1935 being awarded a London County Council three-year intermediate scholarship. In 1938 he accepted a Royal Exhibition and studied at Royal College of Art, 1938–9 and 1946–8, interrupted by war service, his final year being for postgraduate studies. Chamberlain taught at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and Bromley College of Art, ending as principal lecturer at Camberwell, his visiting lectureships including Sheffield, Colchester, Bournemouth and Ravensbourne. In 1984 he was selected to get a Civil List Pension. Chamberlain carried out a substantial volume of graphic work for such clients as Phoenix House, The Bodley Head, National Savings and Jonathan Cape.
