Painter and teacher, who studied at Chelsea School of Art, 1970–3, and Slade School of Fine Art, 1973–5. He taught at Norwich School of Art, 1975–84, in 1983–4 holding a six-month placement with British Steel Corporation as Artist in Industry on Teesside. Went on to be a part-time teacher at Chelsea School of Art, in 1989 gaining a six-month Rome Award in Painting spent at British School in Rome. Chalkley made frequent appearances at John Moores Liverpool Exhibition from 1980 and was included in Artists in Industry at Hatton Gallery, Newcastle, with tour, in 1984. Had several solo shows in northeast of England, others including Howard Gardens Gallery, Cardiff, 1985, and Lanchester Gallery, Coventry Polytechnic, 1988. Arts Council holds his work.
