Painter and teacher, born in Manchester where he studied at the School of Art, then Slade School of Fine Art where his teachers included Henry Tonks, Fred Brown and Tancred Borenius. He held a number of teaching positions in Liverpool, Shipley and Pudsey, finally – from 1932–51 – being principal of Staffordshire County School of Art and Crafts as well as art adviser to the county. Exhibited RA, Alpine Club Gallery, RCamA, extensively at Arlington Gallery, and RBA. Manchester City Art Gallery and several other northern galleries hold his work. Finally lived at Birdham, Sussex.
