Printmaker, teacher and writer, born in Hungary, where he was educated at Kolozsvar and Szeged University, gaining his doctorate in 1934, also studying art in Italy. He lectured on graphic arts at Franz Joseph University, 1934–41. In England he became a book illustrator, published his own Little Books for a number of years and in 1954 The History of Christmas Cards. Buday was elected RE in 1953 and a fellow of SWE in 1954. Also showed at RA and elsewhere. Arts Council bought his work. Lived latterly in Coulsdon, Surrey.
