Painter and printmaker, born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, of Scottish parents. He trained as a sculptor and went on to travel and read widely, reflected in his work. This used stylized imagery and appeared naïve, his landscapes having an emphasis on the solid structure of objects, rhythm and design being other key features. Brown gained several awards, including a South West Arts Travel Award (Tunisia and Algeria), 1986, and a WAC Award (Orkney), 1992. He was the organiser of several projects including Contemporary Printmaking in Wales, 1993–6, which toured Britain and the continent, and 6 x 6, which toured, 1994. Had a major exhibition at Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea, 1996. Plymouth City Museum, National Maritime Museum and Peel Heritage Museum in the Isle of Man hold examples.
