Artist and teacher, born in Scotland, who graduated from Glasgow School of Art, 1963–8, teachers including David Donaldson and Duncan Shanks. Brown won many awards, including latterly Arts Club Award, SSWA, and Scottish Provident Award there, both 1993; and Heinzel Gallery Award, 1994. He taught from 1968, later positions including head of art at The Edinburgh Academy, Edinburgh from 1988; visiting lecturer, Leith School of Art, Edinburgh, 1991–4; and from 1994 visiting lecturer at Edinburgh College of Art and board director at Leith School of Art. Brown regularly exhibited with RSW, RSA, Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and SSWA, taking part in many other group exhibitions, especially in Scotland. Had a solo show in 1970 at both Glasgow School of Art and Ayr Gallery, Ayr, later ones including The Open Eye Gallery, Edinburgh, and Duncan R Miller Fine Arts, both 1996.
