Sculptor and teacher, born in Edinburgh. His usually small pieces, mostly achieved by casting geometrical forms from wax to bronze, were understated and allusive, with careful attention to the surface. He studied at Cambrige University, 1962–5, and from 1965–71 at Edinburgh College of Art, where he then began teaching. He exhibited regularly at RSA, Federation of Scottish Sculptors of which he was a member, as he was of SSA. As well as taking part in a number of group shows of Scottish sculpture, Brotherston showed solo at Pier Arts Centre, Stromness, and elsewhere. Scottish Arts Council holds his work.
