Figurative painter whose work has been compared in style with that of Hans Bellmer and Francis Bacon. Born in Rotherham, Yorkshire, he studied at the local College of Arts & Technology, 1986–7; Goldsmiths’ College, 1987–8; Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Art, 1988–91, with a Rome Travel Bursary, British School at Rome, 1990; and Chelsea College of Art and Design, 1991. Group exhibitions included Remakes, Young Unknowns Gallery, 1990; Gerald Davies Gallery, Dublin, 1992; British Telecom New Contemporaries, Manchester and tour, 1993; and Art94, with Paton Gallery, Business Design Centre, Islington, 1994. In 1996 Brooks shared a show at Paton with Clive Head. Won a purchase prize and portrait commission from Cheltenham & Gloucester Building Society, 1991, another prize at John Moores Liverpool Exhibition, 1997–8.
