Artist and teacher, born in Tynemouth, Northumberland, who worked in oil, watercolour and felt pen and wash. He studied at Lincoln School of Art, 1947–51, then Leicester College of Art, 1951–2, although he had begun painting in 1940. Taught art for 28 years, taking up full-time art in 1980. Was one of the painters chosen for Jack Beddington’s 1957 book Young Artists of Promise. Became member of AIA, also showing with RA, RBA, LG and elsewhere including Lincolnshire and South Humberside Artists’ Society. Brannan liked to work on the spot, with an inclination for industrial subjects. Had a solo show at Willoughby Memorial Trust Art Gallery, 1985, in Corby Glen. Usher Gallery, Lincoln, and Nuneaton Art Gallery hold his work. Lived in Burbage, Leicestershire.
