Artist in oil and watercolour, born in Oldham, Lancashire, who attended the local Art School for two terms only in 1914, but did not start painting seriously until 1960. Her pictures reflected her childhood world in a naïve style and were compared with those of L S Lowry, although she insisted they had nothing in common. Her work became very popular in reproduction through her books such as And Miss Carter Wore Pink, The Queen Who Came To Tea and Miss Carter Came With Us. Retrospective at W H Patterson, 2000. Died in Wilmslow, Cheshire.
