Painter, printmaker and draughtsman, born in Melbourne, Australia, son of the painter Arthur Boyd. Moved to London with his family in 1959, starting to paint full-time in 1965. In 1968 went to the Michael Karolyi Foundation in south of France on a painting award. Boyd was given technical instruction by his father and attended Central School for two weeks in 1969 on a diploma course, but was essentially self-taught. Turner, the Impressionists and Bonnard were influences. Although he went with his wife and children to live in New South Wales in 1978 Boyd remained based in London, returning to Australia every few years to paint the landscape. He had many solo exhibitions commencing with Bonython Galleries, Adelaide, 1966, later shows including Palazzo Strozzi, Florence, 1989, Boundary Gallery, 1990, and Chappel Galleries, Chappel, 2005.
