The Birkenhead-born marine artist John Bourne obtained his knowledge of ships while sailing as a Chief Officer from Liverpool on a variety of different vessels. As an artist, he seems to have been active in Aberdeen. The Aberdeen Post Office directory for 1922–1923 lists an artist called John Bourne at 113 Constitution Street, at which address his death is recorded in the Aberdeen Press and Journal of Friday 26th April 1935, aged 74.
