Sculptor who after working in a variety of materials latterly concentrated on marble while living in Tuscany, Italy. As well as drawing on classical mythology for her subjects, she sought “through sculpture to discover a new mythology.” Having obtained her philosophy doctorate in 1963, Blumenfeld studied with the Russian-born sculptor Ossip Zadkine in Paris, moving to England in 1969, two years after he died. In 1980, she was made the only American member of the Arts Council’s visual arts panel. She was also a member of RBS. Completed a number of public commissions in Britain, a fine example being the stylised bronze Two Sides of a Woman, 1985, commissioned by Coventry City Council and sited outside the Belgrade Theatre in the city centre.
