Landscape painter and draughtsman who moved to Northern Ireland in 1932 to join the mathematics staff of Campbell College. Previous appointments included the University of Hong Kong and Mill Hill School. Bion was a vigorous and upright character, genial and forthright, who encouraged artistic talent at the College. He was an expert architectural and mechanical draughtsman, with a detailed knowledge of ship design. On his retirement, in 1954, The Campbellian noted his habit of imparting out-of-the-way facts and “pre-eminently sound, if, occasionally, somewhat caustic advice.” The landscape of Ulster, especially its skies and trees, were features of his work, which was exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, RA Summer Exhibition, RHA Magee Gallery in Belfast.
