Painter and teacher, born in Derby, many of whose canvases were abstracts from the Ulster landscape. After attending the Technical High School in Belfast, 1956–60, Bennett studied at Stranmillis College there. He then spent four years living in parts of Ireland, France and Switzerland before taking up a teaching appointment in County Down in 1970. Exhibitions included Queen’s University in Belfast, Ulster Museum and Tom Caldwell Gallery in Belfast both as a member of Group 63 and solo and Barrenhill Gallery in Dublin. Arts Council of Northern Ireland, New University of Ulster and Allied Irish Banks hold examples. The Ards Peninsula, where Bennett lived for a time, was a favourite subject.
