Figurative painter and teacher, who gained an honours degree in fine art, Maidstone College of Art, 1980–3; a postgraduate higher diploma in fine art, Byam Shaw School of Art, 1990–1; a postgraduate diploma in painting, Royal Academy Schools, 1991–4; then did an Acava digital art computer course, 1995. Bartlett’s scholarships included the William Lake Beard Prize, 1979; Bird’s Charity and Bernard Bershinger Bursary, both 1991; Edwin Landseer Scholarship and Eric Kennington Prize for Academic Drawing, both 1992; and in 1994 the Richard Jack Prize and Richard Ford Award. In 1994 he held a residency at Oundle School, including teaching, and in 1995 was commissioned for BAA Art Programme, Art at Heathrow. Exhibitions included Stowells Trophy, RA, 1983; Ways of Seeing, Braintree Arts Centre, Braintree, 1988; RA Summer Exhibition, from 1992; Cocktail, Raw Gallery, 1993; and Out of the Nineties, Mall Galleries, 1994.
