Artist creating sculpture and site-specific projects from man-made and natural materials, born in Paisley, Renfrewshire. She graduated in fine art at Glasgow School of Art, 1986–90, gaining her master’s there, 1991–3. Won a Sir Harry Barnes Scholarship, 1990, Richard Ellis Scholarship, 1993, and Scottish Arts Council Artists Award, 1997. She held a residency from the Council in Canberra and Hobart, Australia, 1995–6, in 1997 being artist-in-residence, Millennium Park Project, Govanhill, Glasgow, and at 200 Gertrude Street, Melbourne. Took part in group exhibitions in Europe and Australia, later solo shows including Dream Catcher, 200 Gertrude Street, 1998, The Showroom, 2000, and Dundee Contemporary Arts, 2003. In Ideal Pursuits there, she showed unusual hand-made structures created from curious materials, such as fake fur and piano wire, a cluster of aluminium poles like spiders’ legs and towering wooden boxes screenprinted with pictures of crystals.
