Painter, teacher and community worker whose work included brightly coloured, slightly Surrealist pictures such as her Mythic Heaven, 1995, included in New Contempories, 1996, at Tate Gallery in Liverpool and at Camden Arts Centre. She was born in Perth, Scotland, and gained a degree in fine art at Middlesex Polytechnic, 1987–90, and her master’s degree at Goldsmiths’ College, 1992–4. Other exhibitions included Tinsel Adam Gallery, 1994; and Hard Work Shift One, at London’s Exmouth Market, and Cocaine Orgasm, Bank, both 1995. While painting, Arnold pursued a second career in art and community work: at Cambridge House, Camberwell, and at Fast Forward and Only Connect, two clubs in Southwark. In 1999, she was appointed lecturer in painting at Slade School of Fine Art.
