Painter and mural decorator, born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire. He studied at Scarborough School of Art, Royal College of Art and Royal Academy Schools, winning the Turner Gold Medal and several scholarships. Was a frequent exhibitor at RA and RWA, of which he was a member. Worked in South Africa, 1910–12. Tate Gallery holds his canvas A Secret and he carried out a number of murals in public places, including Royal Academy Burlington House restaurant and Nottingham General Hospital. Died at Alresford, Hampshire, his home for many years.
