Creation and Fall of Man 1513–1514
Mariotto Albertinelli (1474–1515)
The Courtauld, London (Samuel Courtauld Trust)(b Florence, 13 Oct. 1474; d Florence, 5 Nov. 1515). Florentine painter, trained by Cosimo Rosselli, in whose studio he met Fra Bartolommeo. The two worked in partnership in the 1490s and again in 1509–13. Evidently the arrangement ended because Albertinelli temporarily abandoned painting to become an innkeeper, saying (according to Vasari) that he was fed up with criticism and wanted a ‘less difficult and more cheerful craft’.
