A sculpture is a three-dimensional work of art made from a variey of materials, such as wood, metal, clay, or found objects. These materials can be carved, cast or assembled together. The roots of the Western tradition of sculpture can be found in the figurative forms of ancient Greece, the classicism of which influenced Renaissance artists. As sculpture evolved, moving through the Gothic and Baroque periods, for example, representation became less important, with modern sculptors exploring abstraction.
