Since its invention in the early nineteenth century, photography has held a unique position in bridging art and science. Art photography is broadly defined as an image made with aesthetic intentions rather than for commercial, scientific or journalistic purposes: though many photographs overlap these boundaries. The proliferation of camera technology means photography has become an ever-more accessible image-making tool, yet this important artistic medium is arguably still overlooked and underestimated.
