The London Group was established in 1913 following a merger between the Camden Town Group and the English Vorticists. Its aim was to create an artist-run entity to challenge the dominance of the Royal Academy and to provide exhibition opportunities for artists. Its first president was Harold Gilman, and its founder members included Walter Sickert, Spencer Gore, Wyndham Lewis, and Joseph Epstein.

An exhibiting group of British artists, founded in 1913. They embraced a broad church and were initially formed from an amalgamation of the Camden Town Group and various smaller groups and individuals. They were soon joined by Futurists and Vorticists and the first group exhibition was held at the Goupil Gallery, London in 1914, where the most impressive work on show was David Bomberg's Vorticist In the Hold (Tate, London).
