The Euston Road School is applied to a group of British painters committed to realism in opposition to avant-garde trends. The group, which was composed of staff and students of the School of Drawing and Painting, London, was set up in 1937 and was named after their base at 314–316 Euston Road. Their focus on traditional subjects painted in a naturalistic way reflected the group's political belief that art should be socially relevant and accessible.
