Ania Grzesik views the hospital less as a building or an environment and more as a collection of people. The four oil paintings on board by Grzesik in the hospital are a direct result of interaction with individuals she encountered, the work routines she observed and other activities beyond the hospital of which staff told her. Although essentially portraits of individuals doing specific tasks, the works also act as a metaphor for the many personalities of the hospital and the varied activities that go on both inside and outside its confines. The Cafe, staffed by the League of Friends, represents a hub of social interaction at the hospital. It is a meeting point for all the hospital’s varied users and, through the window, we see the landscape beyond.
