Thanks to an Art Detective discussion, this painting was identified in 2023 as a copy of ‘Home! after service’ by Frank William Warwick Topham shown at the Royal Academy (no. 1416) in 1879 as a sequel/pendant to his 'Drawing For Military Service, Modern Italy', which was exhibited at the RA in 1878.
