Head and chest portrait of a Barotse woman, from Western Zambia, her head turned three-quarters to the left. There is a heavy fence made of small tree trunks in the upper background. The sky is bright blue and the earth is a hot orange colour. The lady wears traditional dress and is looking seductively at the viewer, supplemented by the heavy make-up worn and full, red lips. Impressionistic in style with short strokes of paint working to construct the image. There is high illumination on parts of her face suggesting strong sunlight. The colours are rich and connote exoticism.
