Stephen Meyler was born in in Llanelli in 1956. He began his formal art training in 1975 at Dyfed College of Art, Carmarthenshire, undertaking his foundation year. He moved from Carmarthen to Epsom School of Art where he studied fine art for four years and gained his diploma. Since leaving college in 1979 Meyler has been trying to paint full-time, both in Llanelli and Epsom. Broadly speaking his work could be described as political. The pictures do not represent the politics of the right or the left, however, but rather the politics of alienation or the depersonalisation of the individual in a large and bureaucratic society.
