This painting depicts a view of Loch Gairloch, overlooked by the hill Baosbheinn on the left.

Although born in Yorkshire, Donald McIntyre had strong family connections to the Gairloch area, where he spent much of his childhood and formative years. He later trained as a dentist, but as a student took evening classes at Glasgow School of Art, where he studied under James Wright, RSW. Donald continued his work in dentistry until 1963, at which point he decided to make his living as a full-time artist.

During his lifetime Donald McIntyre mounted solo exhibitions in a number of prestigious galleries, and his work is now included in the collections of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, the University of Wales, and the US Embassy in London.

This painting was donated to Gairloch Heritage Museum in 2002 by the artist in memory of his cousin, John McIntyre.
